During the renting process, verifying tenants is one of the significant worries of both tenants and landlords. Renters worry about submitting sensitive information to multiple agents without proper documentation and data protection ethics. At the same time, landlords complain about the tedious and manual process of verifying each tenant, especially when they are dealing with multiple prospective renters.

This is why we built Spleet Verify - a pre-authentication tool for landlords to run due diligence reports on their tenants.

What is Spleet Verify?

Spleet Verify is a seamless tenant verification system for Nigerian landlords and property owners. The system will run identity verification, and fraud indicator checks to ensure prospective tenants are who they claim to be and all information submitted by them is accurate.

For landlords, Spleet Verify provides you with detailed real-time reports on prospective tenants to help you make informed decisions on who to rent to. And renters can rest assured that their information is secure and will only be shared with their permission.

How does it work?

Landlords looking to run checks on their tenants sign up on Spleet and request tenant verification on their dashboard. They fill in basic information about the tenant, including their contact information. Once that is submitted, the tenant receives this request, confirms that the information is accurate and uploads some more details as requested. Spleet takes it from there, working with a legal team to ensure that all data submitted by the tenant is credible and verified.

There are four subscription options for tenant verification. You can purchase a one-time payment for ₦1,200 or choose either of our Bronze (10 units for ₦9,600), Silver (15 units for ₦15,600) or Gold plan (20 units for ₦21,600).

Tenant verification is completed within 24-48 hours. All you have to do is check your dashboard in that timeframe to confirm the completed verification process.

All information provided to Spleet will not be shared or sold with any third parties. Tenant data will only be shared with the landlord who submitted the verification request.

Why should you use Verify?

The EFCC's recent KYC policy aimed at the real estate industry does not seek to make landlords liable for crimes committed by their tenants. It reinforces a law (the Advance Fee Fraud and other Fraud Related Offences Act) which provides that a 'person who, being the occupier or is concerned in the management of any premises, causes or knowingly permits the premises to be used for any purpose which constitutes an offence under this Act is guilty of an offence and liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term of not less than 5 years without the option of a fine.' Landlords and property managers are strongly advised to conduct due diligence on prospective tenants.
